5 Tips for visiting the Salzburg Christmas Market | Salzburg Experience

It's the happiest time of the year! Especially if you spend it in Salzburg, Austria's romantic capital, and visit the world-famous Salzburg Christmas market

The Salzburg Christmas Market

The Salzburg Christmas Market is one of the world's oldest Advent fairs, dating back to the fifteenth century. The enchantment of the festive season sweeps over Salzburg's old city during Christmas, making it a fantastic visit all year. Festively decorated with lights and decorations, and jam-packed with traditional vendors selling seasonal delicacies and handicrafts, the Salzburg Christmas market is a must-visit. It is such a small city and is the ideal location to celebrate Christmas in an Austrian manner with the family.  If you're planning a trip to this magnificent place soon, keep these five tips in mind.

  • Warm clothing is recommended:-

All Christmas markets are hosted outside and require a significant amount of time spent in the freezing weather. Layers are your best friends when it comes to reducing the restlessness of both adults and children. Don't forget your winter essentials: a scarf, a hat, and gloves. You'll be out for hours visiting the amazing stalls, and no one enjoys freezing earlobes or fingertips.

  • Do not depend on cashless transactions:-

Cash is usually the sole form of payment accepted unless you're at a huge corporation stall. The majority of the stalls are temporary wooden huts, so save your plastic for cash machine top-ups if you don't want to miss out on tempting goodies.

  • Do not carry your food:-

If you don’t want to miss the aroma and taste of food that Salzburg Christmas market stalls offer then strictly follow this rule. As you wander through the markets, the aromas of Christmas sweets, toasted almonds, and roasted chestnuts will entice you. The amount of food the Salzburg Christmas market has to offer is astonishing. From enormous pretzels wrapped in anything from swiss cheese to chocolate to delectable bowls of Kaiserschmarrn, a typical Austrian dessert of shredded pancakes.  The lovely gingerbreads and elegant chocolates are wonderful gifts for friends and family, the Salzburg Christmas market food is a nice way to share a flavor of your trip with them.

  • Do not miss these hot beverages:-

Warm-up with some glasses of glühwein. The popular warm sweet mulled wine is a seasonal must-have. It's a great way to stay warm while visiting the markets. The hot chocolates with whippings of delicious cream are a must-try for the younger members. Customers must deposit a few euros on their first purchase to receive the glühwein and hot chocolate in customized mugs. However, be aware of scammers in the Salzburg Christmas market.

  • Plan your visit early
